Some very tight squeezes
A tight corner in the Himalayas.
One of our most spectacular drives of the entire trip was out of Lhasa, TIbet, and through the Southern Himalayas. I’ll do a whole blog with photos about that drive, but I also wanted to share the nail-biting stretch of road with amazingly tight curves, low overhangs, narrow bridges and steep drop-offs.
Will, our driver, trusts Lu to be his second pair of eyes to direct him out of awkward spots, and this road offered up lots of awkward spots.
Lu spent most of her time on foot, waving this way and that and shouting or banging on the side of the truck to let Will know to stop.
Quite a few of us got out of the truck to photograph the progress on this one-of-many tight curves.
Where to next? 
That bridge you are crossing is a great BRITISH marvel of engineering, it is a Bailey bridge, this bridge is usually built by troops of the Royal Engineers, it is all muscle power that builds it
The bridge that is being crossed on here is a double single (2 panels wide, 1 panel high), it can take a battle tank without damage to the bridge
It was the bridge that was used to cross every main river from Fance to Berlin, it has been used everywhere in the world, for crossing rivers, gorges, ravines, in fact every where a bridge that needs to be built, and as long as you can get it close enough for blokes to carry the panels, you can build a BAILEY BRIDGE
I wonder how old this bridge is ?
They were never meant to be a permanent structure, so it does show that we can (or used to) make some great things, that really lasted

Wow, thanks Derrick for sharing that detail! It is so interesting to know. When I posted those photos Poor John said that none of them really showed what a tight and difficult crossing and corner that was for the truck.
