Pick a number—any number between 1 and 100
I have an idea for a new blog. No, this blog isn’t ending. My idea is for an additional blog. But to make it work I need a number between 1 and 100.
I’m no good at deciding and Poor John just wants to choose his age. Actually, I do have a number, but the other day I learned that it’s already been taken by another blogger and for another purpose. 😦 Please help me out.
So submit your preferred number from 1 to 100, and tell me why you want it.
The number with the most nominations and/or the best reason for being nominated will be chosen as the main component of the blog title and become the very core of how the blog operates. And you (or multiple yous) will get the credit for naming the blog. I’ve thought of a fun prize. Interested? Excited? I am.
So what’s your number? Nominations close 29 February—my grandmother’s birthday. If she was alive she’d be turning 132, which wouldn’t be a valid number.
Update
Here are the numbers picked as of 19 February. Ten days to go.
3 — Steve Favinger — gears on the manual car I learned to drive
3 — Your (my) darling daughter — in honour of a hat trick she took
7 — Louie Scrivener — a bit off centre, a bit uneven, a whole lotta cool
11 — John Miller — bingo call of Legs 11
11 — Kelly (Wildflour) — two 1s are never lonely
12 — Joy B. — started the new blog in 2012
14 — Sy S. — people in the trip pic plus Aggie (a fall-back number of 23)
17 — Martin D. Hash — prime number and a teenage
22 — Wanda Raab — uniform number (and favourite number too)
23 — Helen Ellison — met her hubby that day
28 — Riverside Len — wife’s birthday and favourite number
32 — Emma Bickley — my grandmother’s number of actual birthdays
37 — Keith Hutchison — good age
37 — aussierodney — because
38 — Kate — fortunate number in Chinese culture
39 — Gary Walker — a ticket winner
39 — Sylvia Oliver — 39 and holding + the 39 steps
42 — Lin Stockley — the answer to the universe
42 — Sharon Smith — the answer to the universe
60 — Louise M Oliver — next birthday (a fall-back number of 99)
77 — Carrie / flower 7 — a life filled with 7s
88 — Lutz Kuester — same upside-down and reversed
98 — Melissa L. — a high and neglected number

37 – The first number that popped into my mind. As it turns out it’s a good age as well 🙂 … any age is a good age.
Cheers Peggy

Thanks Keith. Wish I was 37 again. Will keep you posted on whether it’s the winning number.

I say 98 – I always feel sorry for the numbers at the beginning and end of a pick a number range – no one ever picks them just leaves them hanging there. Whenever I see a TV show or read about a pick a number I always think about how it will never be one of the numbers at the end. So for this twisted person who feels sorry for numbers (like they have feelings!) I chose 98. 🙂

Thanks Melissa. I’ve never thought about feeling sorry for a number, but I sure get your point. Nice reasoning and, in future, I’ll always think more kindly about 98.

23 because it’s the date I met Paul (23rd January 1983 to be precise)

Oh wow, Helen, I know that is a powerful number. I’ve heard all about when you and Paul met. But would Paul pick the same number? hehehe

If your blog has the answer to life, the universe and everything, then there can only be one number!

Good one Sharon. Life, the universe and everything are not quite the topic of the blog. Oh wait, maybe they are. I’ll get back to you. In the meantime, I’ll send you the walk details now.

I always go for 7 or 77 because I was born on July 7, 1977 (in other words: 7/7/77!)

You’re cagey Carrie. I like 7 too, but you have to settle on 7 or 77. Big difference. I’m waiting. 🙂

OK, 77 it is LOL 😀

22….it’s always been a favorite number and incidentally when I played basketball it was my uniform number.

Ah, to be 22 again—whether in age or uniform. I salute your choice. 🙂

A second vote for 42. Is this a pattern developing?

In the Categories section you have listed 23 countries you have gone to, adding UK and OZ makes it
25!

Good thinking Sy, but I’ve been to lots more countries. Maybe I should count those up and report back. Like I said, this blog will go for a long time if I cover everything.

Ok, hard to determine the total number of countries you visited for this UK to OZ adventure… So my new number will be the people in the final photo at Sydney Harbor which is 13 ! And if you don’t like the bad luck number 13, add one more for Aggie the pooch for a grand total of 14 !

17 (Because it’s prime and it’s a teenager.)

Thanks Martin. Have to admit that I have a maths degree, so a prime number is a temptation.

38.
It’s a very fortunate number in Chinese culture – triple prosperity.
Works for me… I was 38 when I met my love.

28 was my wife’s birthday and her fav number, so that’s good enough for me.

Gosh Len, if Poor John has a say, he’ll like 28. It’s his birthday too.

I’ve always liked 39. I don’t follow numerology but the #9 seems to show up in my life often I’ve noticed over the years. So why #39 you ask? 3 is the square root of 9 and I needed a lucky number for the powerball lottery drawing.
I obviously haven’t won millions but I have used the number since the 90s and won several small prizes totally maybe a $1000 dollars or so and it was always the #39 that was the ticket winner.

And don’t forget that 39 is/was Jack Benny’s age. While I, of course, am only 27 and a fibber!

I vote for 60 because it will be my next significant birthday! Are we allowed more than one vote? Following someone else’s reasoning I have another number that I would like to add.

Probably ought to stay at one number per person. Although I’d still be interested in knowing the number and the reason.

I vote for 33 because given your grandma was born on a leap year, that would be her true age 🙂 And seeing as she appears to be the inspiration for this deadline, what better reason?
LikeLike
I like your reasoning Emma. Very clever. Although she would be celebrating her 32nd birthday. There wasn’t a 29 February in 1900. So do you want to go with 32 or 33?
I’m all for historical accuracy so I pick 32.

11- Never one again. Some people do well alone, I’m not one of those people. When I went through my divorce (after almost 23 years of marriage), I felt like my life was over and had never been so lonely or felt so alone in my life! Then I met another one. Now we’re happily together and I will never be alone again.

Hi Kelly — So glad you dropped in. Two 11s in one day! How amazing is that! And such a lovely reason. You are so right, two ones make a number that is not lonely. 🙂

Following Melissa L’s logic, my other choice, if I’d been allowed one, would have been 99—the last double-digit number of them all.
