What you see in your own backyard
A female king parrot. The male’s chest and head are both red.
We’re at our beach house this week, in Rosedale, on the South Coast of Australia.
It’s a bush block with lots of trees and undergrowth, and plenty of wildlife too.
Mother Nature is always putting Rosedale in some sort of interesting transition.
Check out the stormy seas and the new creek running at the bottom of the gully.
Here are pics of some things I saw today.
Where to next? 
Well, in my garden there isnt anything exotic, just my hens scratching about, a squirrel looking around for something he buried sometime back, a few blue tits on the bird table (grabbing a few seeds before the robin comes back, I think he regards it as his personal feeding station)
Got a few mag pies building a nest, and having a bust up with another family of mag pies over a prime spot

I’d love to have a few hens in my backyard, but the foxes would get them. 😦
In my experience, though, everyone has some good stuff in their backyard.

The foxes used to come sniffing about, but now its easier for them to dig about in the bins, these days
Breeding season starts soon, so there will be some weird noises going on at night

You should hear the possums at night, when they get into an argument. Sounds like a couple of drunks scuffling outside your bedroom windows.

When the foxes are breeding round here, they sound like a baby crying or in some cases someone being attacked,
I guess they go for a meal fro the bins, then get down to business, sometimes it goes on for hours, the row can be quite blood curdling sometimes

That parrot looks like a Toti (sp) which I had seen in Old Deli… and I think common in Asia?
My friend in Perth used to send me photos of the Gayla birds…. if you have any, please send a few pics. I guess no kangaroos on your property.
Here in the local park there are way to many squirrels and the only predators are one or two hawks
in the area… yes, within NYC we have wild species of animals. And in fact Central Park is a major flyway for birds in the spring time and fall… flying high and passing thru, but some rest in the park during the nighttime (for free, no high hotel rates for them)…. and with 355 different species sighted (all boroughs within NYC).
How are you doing in the dog department…. can you let dogs run off leash on your property…

Gayla birds? Do you mean Galah? If so, I can probably find or take some pics. They’ve everywhere. And we’ve had a kangaroo or two at Rosedale and in Canberra too. I woke up one morning and there was a kangaroo standing in our driveway.
Amazing to know NYC has so many birds!
And the dogs can roam a bit at Rosedale, although dangerous snakes can be a problem so I mostly let them off the leash at the beach. Aggie loved the beach.

Because our slice of paradise didn’t burn on New Year’s Eve, the birds are treating it as a haven. One day there were eight king parrots, a kookaburra and a crimson rosella on the deck at the same time. Yes, I put out the right seed for them. The neighbour has a small pond that is drawing kangaroos, wallabies and at least five kinds of frogs.
As for the stupid men, we hope the next elections make short work of them.
