Another road trip—Canberra to Perth and back

Thought you might like to join us on our latest road trip, which began Tuesday.

This time we’re driving from Canberra to Perth and back. With side trips, we reckon we’ll cover about 10,000 kilometres over about a month. I’ll keep track and let you know.

These pics are from the first 24 hours. The countryside doesn’t usually look so lush. Australia has had plentiful rain in the last two years—after 10 years of drought—and the landscape is magnificent.

Come back soon to see maps and more trip details. Plus you can check out some of the recipes that are being made along the way.

Hi Derrick — Most people don’t realise just how huge Australia is, but I hope this adventure helps to give them an idea. You’re starting your own trip soon. Happy travels to you too.

    Hi Peggy,
Thanks for that. I’ll read your posts and look with great interest at the photos. It will be interesting to see the countryside after you get into the desert. Take care.

Hi Louise — thanks for the good wishes. I agree that it will be fascinating to see how the landscape changes. I only hope my photos can do it justice.

    HI Peggy and John,
Looking forward to following your progress across Australia. When you get there Perth and Freemantle are well worth the trip.

    Regards,
    Ian and Pat

Thanks for dropping in. Great to see you. We are looking forward to seeing Perth and Fremantle too. Haven’t been to Western Australia since 1984. This trip is long overdue. Love to you all.

    LP & PJ,

You would think that after your extensive travels throughout Asia… you would need a nice rest… but here you go again, on the road. Nice picture of green Australia. 10,000 kilometers = 6,213.7 miles, this must be for a round trip, but still a very long drive.

Stay safe, drive within the speed limits, go slow in Kangaroo Zones?…. and post pictures and stories of another one of your high adventures.

Thanks Sy. I think kangaroos are the big challenge. I have some photos of them in the Grampians the other day. I bet we saw 2000 roos in 45 minutes, and at least 30 bounced ACROSS the road in front of us.
