Poor John relieved he didn’t have to dance

There was no chance I was going to get Poor John up on the dance floor, but we still had a fantastic time at the wedding of Keith and Carol.

I worked with Keith for many years in the 1990s, and was delighted when we were invited to attend their celebrations in Adelaide.

It was a union of a Scotsman and an Irish lass, so the guests (including many of Carol’s family from Ireland) were treated to kilts, some speeches in Gaelic and the most wonderful Irish dancing by a troupe from the Roberts Academy.

Keith and Carol

Keith and Carol

That’s why I’m writing this post. I had enough sense to catch most of one of the performances. What a treat.

Keith and Carol did a routine too. You can see that Keith is not a born dancer. Full marks to him for making the effort. We wish them our warmest congratulations. They make a great match! No honeymoon just yet while Carol’s family is still enjoying Australia.

P.S. Poor John’s last appearance on the dance floor was in 1982 when he was dragged on stage in Tahiti by a dancer wearing a grass skirt and a couple of coconuts.

Those Irish dancers are great. Always mesmerising to watch. And Keith almost kept up with Carol too. Well done to him.
    Best wishes, Pete.

Keith gave it such a good effort and it was easy to see how they worked together.

Have you still got the video of Poor John dancing in Tahiti? The Irish dancers were great. I felt like a Guinness extra stout.

I probably still have an old snap of Poor John looking totally uncomfortable on stage in Tahiti. One day I’ll plow through the drawers of old pics.

Her dress was gorgeous. It has a little bolero-style jacket which is what Keith is holding in the still pic.

We had a fantastic time. Well worth driving 1200 kilometres to get there.

Surely there is a photo or video of Poor John dancing in Tahiti! I believe one of my husband’s last performances was doing the haka in New Zealand decades ago alongside some ladies also in grass skirts and swinging some big puffy white balls. 🙂

I remember taking a photo of him on stage, but no idea where it is. Time for a search. I bet our husbands would get along just fine!

They both did a great job of the wedding dance. Weddings are so much fun, but for me part of that is the dancing. It’s a shame poor John won’t stand opposite to you on the dance floor and bob his head up and down, just so as you can say you danced with your partner.

It’s okay Chris. There’s always someone who will give me a dance, but Poor John comes through when it comes to hanging out laundry, doing dishes, washing windows, vacuuming. You get the idea!

Can totally relate as wild horses could not get Ben onto the dance floor. (One of his worst fears… he will be pulled up by someone to dance…)

True love is shown in so many ways …. Keith trying so hard (and publicly) is surely testimony to his devotion to his new bride. My husband is almost as good as he is on the dance floor (our kitchen actually because he would never venture to dance in public but he knows how much I love to and so he tries at home) … the Irish Dancers are fantastic – I’m a smitten kitten when it comes to good Irish dancing and it was a joy to watch this fabulous troupe 😊

I’ve known Keith for many years and you are spot-on when you say that dance is testimony to his devotion. Good to know your hubby is prepared to sway around the kitchen. Poor John is almost verging on dance at the gym. The new instructor is Indonesian and she likes us to shake our booty. He’ll probably be on the receiving end of catcalls fairly soon. Our gym buddies follow this blog and there were already a few comments this morning.

My husband feels his pain but it’s all in a good cause – staying slim and trim and in good flexible health is so important as we notch up those decades.

The slim-and-trim argument got Poor John to the gym for the first time in years.

Keith had on pants! He should have gone commando kilt to show his Scottish, um, qualifications? The grass skirt and coconuts is the real story here. Something like that would put a healthy fear of dancing in even the bravest and most inebriated!
