Not everyone loves a parade

Parade in Tainan, TaiwanI can’t believe that it’s been almost two months since my last post. I haven’t been sick, but I haven’t been inspired to write either. I have cleaned and cooked. Poor John is enjoying desserts for the first time in years. The dog is getting plenty of walks too.

I’ve spent the last week sorting photos—in print and digitally. Not sure how long it will take me to organise pics going back 100+ years, but I’m loving the old ancestral pics.

Parade in Tainan, Taiwan

These pics gave me a good laugh. We saw a long and colourful parade while we were in Taiwan. This one was spread all over the city of Tainan, and represented many neighbourhoods.

I’m getting back to posting but I thought you’d like seeing evidence that not everyone loves a parade, especially if they’ve been on a float for most of the day.

Each neighbourhood had its own celebration so we never knew whether we were in the beginning, middle or end of the parade. That said, I think most of them went on all day and into the night. This poor kid had had enough.

Hah, these pictures are so sweet! I can relate to the lack of inspiration you’re feeling. Very much looking forward to looking back on this time and think of it as a brief period of our existence, even though right now it feels never ending… Keep well and enjoy those desserts!

There are two modern classics represented here. The ubiquitous ASD (AntiSocialDevices) and the colorful, possibly thousand-year-old ceremonial garb replete with giant cross-trainers. Back when churches had Mass I loved to see the solemn and sincere robed youth process, their massive, multicolored trainers protruding from the bottom of their cassocks. All we need now is for Native American ceremonial dancers to forego fringed moccasins for running shoes.
Thanks, I needed a good laugh this morning!

I’m so glad you spotted the shoes. The parades really were a blend of the ages. Heaven forbid the demise of the moccasins. My most comfortable footwear.

Mine, too. Without them I’d have gone through more than several years of my life barefoot. Boy Scout camp, all I know about when is Ennery the 8th was all over the radio. Everyone had to have a project. I got a moccasin kit and have been hooked ever since. However I don’t roll my own these days.

My feet have a weird bone structure so my entire collection of footwear is thongs, tennis shoes, slippers, moccasins and one pair of party shoes worn under duress.

When it comes to Parades, NYC has quite a few… however, not this early summer, June 2020 because of Covid-19 (no social gatherings). Several of the bigger ones last year were: The Israel Day Parade, The Puerto Rican Day Parade and The Pride March celebrating the LGBTQ community (especially colorful and lively).

And since I now have a lot of time, being inside… I got out my very old slides, digitized many and put together a Slide Show/Gallery of photos of the past “Parade of Tall Ships/OpSail” in New York Harbor and sailing up the Hudson River, for the years ’76, ’86, ’20.

Further, I would have loved to see the Chinese New Year Parades/Celebrations each year in Taiwan and I guess this post was taken during this time. Too bad the child, had enough of a long parade sitting on a colorful fish.

When the Queen or any important dignitary visits foreign countries one often sees a troupe doing a native dance or performance. Often one can see the ennui on their faces. It is a bit of a forced kind of exuberance.
I would not like to do a dance for Morrison or Trump.

He reminds me of a little girl who I taught in Korea, who was so overburdened with extra classes and school that she would sometimes fall asleep in class. And I often just left her, as I thought she perhaps needed it more than extra English practice, especially as she was particularly bright.

Off Topic- Your Data, Photography, Recipe Collection.

I have thousands of photos and I am in the process of copying them and my Data onto a big External Hard Drive. Then copying all onto a second External Hard Drive as a Backup. Plus considering using an outside storage website as an additional backup (expensive).

Further, in the past month one of my main External Hard Drives for photos was dropped, I broke it and now can’t retrieve any of my photos. Plus a second External Hard Drive as my backup (for photos), failed as well. However, I have already copied my Data and Photos to a new big External Hard Drive. And I hope to copy all to a second new big External Hard Drive for my new backup.

Further, I am writing because I highly recommend people have backups of important Data (Tax info, Health Records, Old Family Photos, Weddings/Special Occasions..). Because you never know when say an external hard drive fails, a computer crashes, hackers/ malware might destroy info, theft, fires etc. If I have scared you a little regarding this Off Topic, GOOD! Please consider backing up your precious information.

    Stay Safe from Covid-19,
