No gold for me

gold body shield and accessories

Can you believe it? There we were in Dubai during the annual Diwali celebrations—the Hindu festival of lights. The gold souk was filled with the finest in gold craftsmanship—and Poor John wouldn’t buy me a single piece.

Does any piece strike your fancy? I’m rather partial to the shoe. So practical in so many ways.

I fancy the necklace with the maroon cord, but the matching earrings would drag my poor earlobes down to my feet.

But seriously, do people wear all that heavy jewellery?

Wow! No kidding! That tunic-chainmail item in the top photo would require a very strong person to wear it!

I find that style of jewellery far too ostentatious, but I know it is very popular in the Middle East. Poor John made the right decision. 🙂
    Best wishes, Pete.

Among her many allergies, Alie is allergic to gold: a great blessing to a poor husband. 😁

Yes. In an era when there were no medicines specifically for rheumatoid arthritis, they decided to try gold shots. She had a terrible reaction that we didn’t understand for a long time. A few years later, they began to develop the biologics specifically for the disease which help many people and is the reason one is less likely to see disfigurement today.

Finding a park you could visit in those shoes without being mugged would be tricky. They don’t look very comfortable either.

Guess they have to spend that oil money on something. I mean, who wouldn’t want a necklace with a gazebo on it?

The 3rd pic, the piece on the left – beautiful. All the rest – meh.

Interesting. I liked the old quarter in Dubai by the Creek. I’m sure the gold merchants knew their customers. Were they mostly Indians at Diwali or rich Arabs as well?

I sympathise with poor John! (not sure Denise would)

    LeggyPeggy,

The gold shoe is beautiful and did people blogging notice the Quartz Crystal the gold shoe was placed in? Also, do local people have gold fillings, with so much gold available.

That quartz crystal is gorgeous. As for gold fillings, I have two ancient gold crowns—in my mouth not on my head.
