Going to the Galapagos
Poor John and I are in Quito, Ecuador. We head to the Galapagos Islands in about seven hours. Doubt that I’ll have internet access. Assuming that is the case (and that I don’t post anything before I go to bed), we’ll be back on the 11th. Stay tuned.
P.S. I think this is our boat.
I recently read sad news from the Galapagos Islands. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2164196/Lonesome-George-LAST-giant-Galapagos-Islands-turtle-dies-age-100.html

I saw that too. 😦
Hope I can get pics of other ancient turtles.

Have a great time on the Galapagos islands. It’s one of the things to do on my bucket list.

We feel so blessed to be able to go. It’s only possible because our first trip plan fell through.

Enjoy the Galapagos Peggy. That looks like one really good, and comfortable, boat. Will look forward to the next lot of photos.

I was going to post that link about Lonesome George, too. Such a loss. Maybe when you visit they will have some new information. I read they plan to embalm him and maybe he will someday be on display so no one forgets his magnificent species. I assume they will keep DNA samples and maybe in the future he can be cloned.
I’m not always in favor of cloning but when a species goes instinct because of human interference instead of a them going extinct because they have run their evolutionary course… I think they deserve a second chance.
Have a great time. I envy you going to Galapagos.

We loved the Galapagos and saw Lonesome George’s pen. His memory is treated with great honour here. I didn’t hear about any cloning or other measures though. Will be posting lots of blog items on the Galapagos — a truly unbelievable place.
