Bariloche in calmer times, from the cable car
Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, and letting you know we are fine.
News from this part of the world hasn’t been great this week. There were riots in Bariloche, in the lake district of Argentina, and now Copahue is showing lots of volcanic activity between Chile and Argentina.
We’re in the Pantanal wetlands of Brazil and heading towards the coast and Rio by the 30th.
I’ll be writing more soon, but will have no internet for four or five days.
Leggy Peggy and Pour John,
Good to read that you are all allright. Wishing you all a Season’s Greetings and a Happy and Healthy New Year 2013!
Aside- Christmas Eve here in Metro NYC Santa showed up at my apartment (Posted on an Irish Terrier Message Board):
==========
Hello,
It is now one minute past midnight Christmas Eve and lo and behold Santa came
through the window (no chimney here in my apartment). Hello Santa, Ho, Ho, Ho…
I chuckled. Sy, here is your Christmas present, a big over-stuffed Brisket
of Beef on Rye Bread with deli mustard and a Kosher Sour Pickle. Wow, just the
perfect sandwich and one I love, thanks Santa. And for Laddy me Boy I have a
light fall orange colored coat and some dog bones… Laddy hearing this started to
bark with approval. He then said he had little time to visit and started out
the window. So I shouted, Where is Rudolph and the sled? He said he had double
parked it on the street and hope he does not get a parking ticket. And I was
able to shout out one more question, Where are you headed to? Santa then said I
am off to Newtown, Connecticut and gifts for all the families who lost their
children and adults to that terrible tragedy two weeks ago. So I shouted back,
my prayers and good thoughts are with all the families…. As he said, Ho, Ho, Ho
enjoy and have a Very Merry Christmas… and flew away high in the sky.

Thanks for your good wishes Sy, and the wonderful story about the presents for you and Laddy. Beef on rye with pickles is a great sandwich. I was glad to hear that Santa had a special mission for the families of Newtown. What a tragedy that was.
Hope your 2013 is off to a rousing start. We are still in Rio, which seems like the party capital of the world. Heading home tomorrow.
