We found the bone, sort of
Indi and a very clean Scout roughhousing
Remember the whodunit at my house a couple of weeks ago? Two dogs and a missing leg of lamb—bone and all.
Indi and Scout were the obvious culprits, and now we know where the bone ended up.
Here’s how the discovery came about.
Scout and his mum, Caroline, came for dinner last night (we minded him while Caroline was on holiday.) Soon after they arrived, Caroline said Scout had spent the previous morning at the vet’s.
He was suffering from a severely impacted bowel.

Caroline explained, The vet said it was the worst case he’d ever seen. He gave him a laxative on Friday, but that did nothing, so back we went on Saturday. So the vet took an x-ray to see what was going on. You should have seen the x-ray! The blockage was huge. And what really surprised me was that the vet said it was caused by bones. I hardly ever give Scout bones, so I don’t know how this happened.
By then, I’m choking with laughter. Oh Caroline, you forgot all about the whodunit and the missing lamb bone!
Geez, we all had the best belly laugh at Scout’s pain and Caroline depleted wallet—$620—and then what the vet had to say as they were leaving. Caroline, he’s all sorted now. We’ve hosed down the surgery and cleaned up Scout as well as we can, but give him a bath when you get him home.

Where to next? 
The news I’ve been hanging out for. Well, we knew who the culprits were, but where did they hide the loot? Now we know. I hope Scout has learnt that crime doesn’t pay anyone but the vet.

Let’s just say I put last night’s leftovers away about two seconds after we cleared the table. Didn’t want the pair to try a repeat performance.

You’ve got that right. He’s a very clever boy and surely the mastermind behind the heist, but he paid the higher price in the ‘ahem’ end.

Should have known it was Scout all a long. This occurred with my dog and yes, the vet bill was quite expensive. She no longer gets bones. Happy Monday Peggy! 🙂

Scout chews toys to pieces, while Indi just plays with them, so it makes sense that he got the bone to gnaw on and she ate the meat. But remember I didn’t give them the lamb. They stole it.

So, the mystery is solved. Somehow, I don’t think the discomfort he suffered would keep Scout away from a nearby bone in the future!

What an angelic face, how could you suspect him. He is probably trying to get you to believe Indi stole the bone and fed it to him. Was it a cooked bone? My dog has a raw bone every day and I have not had any expensive problems like that. She just grinds them up and eats them, or if large she occasionally buries them.

Yes, he does look very angelic but, as we know, looks can be deceiving. And yes, it was a cooked bone, but remember I didn’t give it to them. They stole it. Indi gets two raw bones a week and copes fine.

Glad to read that Scout survived ‘downing’ that huge lamb bone… lucky dog. I never feed my dog raw or cooked bones… and rawhide as well, which can cause problems in a dog’s digestive system.

Yes, I’m so relieved that Scout didn’t suffer any lasting damage. I’ve always given Indi raw bones, but never cooked. Also no rawhide. I feel lucky she didn’t suffer either.

I don’t think he cared if we were laughing at him. By the time we heard the story, he’d been ‘home and hosed’ so he was feeling swell.

Bad dogs! I don’t know how many times our various evil felines have stolen the Sunday roast. We have a 5 minute rule in our house, rather than the 30 second one that normal people have… 🙂

LOL No kidding! My mother’s dog Buddy can be quite as mischievous just when someone leaves the kitchen, but he doesn’t have any fellow dogs to paw off the blame. (Yeah, I misspelled that on purpose–just couldn’t help myself! 🙂

Dogs love it when there’s someone else to blame. But I had a German shepherd and a Burmese-cross cat, and the cat was always the guilty one. No seriously, she was the one who always did it.

Haha. I’m glad all was revealed in the end, even if the consequences of Scout’s dirty deed ended up with him in such a state. A costly one, too, for Caroline.

The funniest bit was Scout’s ‘blockage’ and the medical treatment – and the ensuing reaction and bath. I almost made an undignified comment about really being ‘in the s–t’! But that wouldn’t have been very ladylike of me. Lol.
