Off on the next adventure

Northern Lights in Alaska 2016
Poor John and I are sitting in Sydney Airport. In less than an hour we’ll be on the way to Shanghai, China.
Over the next six weeks we’ll be in Xian and Beijing, then on the Trans-Mongolian Railway. That 19-day train ride will include stays in Ulan Bator, Mongolia, as well three stays in Russia—Irkutsz, Moscow and St Petersburg.
Then we stop in Sweden before 10 days in glorious Iceland. The saying goes that Iceland is green and Greenland is ice.
We’ll be staying with special friends and hope to see the Northern Lights. We saw them a in Alaska early last year and all the pics are from that trip.
I’ll post as often as I can, but no guarantees. Internet connections are likely to be rare.
Apologies in advance if you don’t see much of me on your blogs.
Where in Alaska did you see them?
Best regards,
Christopher Bartlett

Je vous souhaiterez un très bon voyage! That is indeed an awe inspiring list of places that you will be visiting. I love Russia which is something I seldom shout about but as you, wise traveler know, it is not the politics that make the country. There is also the possibility that I will be in China in the next few weeks …. ekes gazikes, we might bump into each other – hey it’s only a vast land … surely two little pinpricks might! Its all up in the air at the moment and slightly dependent on the timings of the Husband with Two Brains’ next trip to Greenland (where he is building an observatory. As you do). Anyway enough of my ramblings about little miss me, me, me – the main thing is lovely miss you, you, you and Poor John and the fact that I wish you a fabulous trip and want you to know that I will miss you whilst you are gone. So there 🌸

Don’t eat it unless there’s pictures of what it is. The best thing about Greenland is that from the air it makes a great landmark. Be safe.

Yet another amazing trip. I am so envious of your travels, Peggy. (Well, maybe not the camping, travelling in an old truck, or ‘roughing it’ in your inimitable style. 🙂 )
The northern lights were visible last year here, twenty miles away, on the Norfolk coast. Unfortunately, I didn’t know until I watched the news the next day!
Best wishes, Pete.

The grandeur continues! Say hi to the Ulans (Bator & Ude). P’raps a vodka with Vlad?? If you happen to stroll through the all-star cemetery in Moscow and happen to run into Dmitri Shostakovich, please give him my best! Also, Reykjavik in November is most pleasing. Blue Lagoon on the way to the airport is positively therapeutic. Gullfoss is profound. Joyful travels to you both!
