Barbecue makes for a great start in Korea

Cooking Korean barbecue

The final cooking happens at the table

Earlier today Poor John and I landed in Korea for a 12-day tour visiting some popular highlights. I plan to tell you more but that will depend on internet availability and how busy James, our tour guide, keeps us.

He certainly got us off to a great start with dinner at a small barbecue restaurant that specialises in meat from Jeju, an island south of mainland Korea. What a winner. The meat was delicious and so were all the sides. I tried a Cass beer, no doubt I’ll try a Kelly down the track.

Korean barbecue and the sides

Loads of side salads and sauces really make the barbecue special

It’s a small group—11 tourists and James—with most from Britain. He warned us that tomorrow we can expect to walk 15,000 to 17,000 steps. I need to get to bed.

Of course this means I won’t be around much. I’ll pop in when I can.

Two Korean beers

Cass and Kelly are popular beers

    Hi Peggy,
Good to hear you aren’t letting the grass grow under your feet and you are still travelling,
No tents or camping this time though
That BBQ looks nothing like the Korean BBQ’s we have in the west (or the UK)
You will have a lot more freedom in Sth Korea than North Korea
Looking forward to some pictures of the local people (and not shopping centers)
Of course you are bound to come up with local recipes 🙂
    Regards to John
    Love Derrick/Anne x

      Thanks Derrick and Anne,
No camping for us this trip and no shopping either.
We owe you a long message with news.
      Love to both of you.

Korean Barbecue joints are proliferating like rabbits in the US. That and burned rice, something I’m quite capable of at home🤣

I’m pretty sure, Peggy, after 15,000 – 17,000 steps, you will need that beer! The barbecue with all of its sauces looks delish!

It ended up more than 23,000 steps which meant two beers.

My wife and I watch a lot of Korean netflix, try soju and korean chicken – it seems to be a staple in the movies. Enjoy! This could be the start of a 12 episode Korean tips for tourists.
